This majestic-sounding wind chime is tuned to the theme of the famous finale of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor (Ode to Joy), which premiered in Vienna in 1824. Given a standing ovation, many in the audience enthusiastically waved hats and handkerchiefs to show their appreciation for the composer who could not hear the applause because he was almost deaf. Changing the text from Ode to Joy" to "Ode to Freedom" and using musicians from around the world, Leonard Bernstein conducted this symphony at the historic fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. No matter where you hang this classic wind chime, whether outdoors or in your home, may it remind you of joy and freedom.
The words in the choral finale were taken from a poem by Friedrich Schiller, and the music from this movement has been adopted as the official European Anthem.
Be embraced, millions!
This kiss for the whole world!
Brothers, above the starry canopy
Must a loving Father dwell.
Do you bow down, millions?
Do you sense the Creator, world?
Seek Him beyond the starry canopy!
Beyond the stars must He dwell.
